About the Windows To The Soul works

six types of artworks are kept in one frame

Meaning and Purpose

At first glance, Rosewood art can appear to be simply inspirational but considering the vast complexities the modern thinking woman faces today, it is meant to be so much more. While still being inspirational to many, the true purpose of Rosewood Art is to expose the often harsh realities of a woman's life and existence by combining images, nature, and thoughts which we all have experienced intimately.

Rosewood art is meant to be less inspirational and more an emotional tool kit to help us through life. As I navigate my retirement years, I wish to give back to the community in the same way I have given Rosewood the Place back to nature. It is my deepest desire that my art simply connect with others and help them navigate their own lives with just a little more comfort, joy, perspective and empowerment.

The Art Itself

All Rosewood art is created with pastels and pencil. I chose antique wooden windows to display the Windows series for several reasons. Wood is natural, and we are nature. Antiques have a history and carry the spirit of all those who came in contact with it. Windows are a way of looking into something or out of something, a view not often seen. We then interpret what we see. It is metaphorically seeing what the Great Spirit sees, my true, bare naked self.

The frames are high quality, provided by Carolina Farm Decor, and each is unique. They have been reinforced, each sash contains actual glass, mostly original, and the backing and hanging wire are professionally done.  All other art is shipped in solid wood frames with either plexiglass or glass to protect the art during shipment. It is my experience that purchasers of fine art prefer to reframe their collectables in something that speaks to them personally.

The Details Matter

All images of nature in Rosewood Art comes from Rosewood itself, either drawn from real life or as a composite of what I once witnessed here. For example, the trail exists, but when I took the photo to draw it, it was empty. If one day I saw a fox or a bobcat there, I draw that in for the art. Also, all flowers have meaning and symbolism to many people and there are millions of flowers here at Rosewood. I include them in my art to further convey the message of the panels.

For instance, if the panel depicts friendship, then I include a drawing of an aster or sunflower that is growing on Rosewood. And finally, each piece displays hand written notes identifying the symbolism of the flowers, images, and perhaps intimate details of my life. Each is entirely unique and original though I may repeat a theme from time to time. Customs are available!

Each order comes with a signed and dated Certificate of Authenticity and a feather from Rosewood.

The Muddle Headed Girl

LIMITED EDITION ORIGINAL SERIES

LIMITED TO ONLY 35 PER YEAR

The Muddle Headed Girl is never confused, she just feels cornered, trapped and frustrated by the unrealistic expectations placed upon her by society. I have been doodling the Muddle Headed Girl for over 50 years and she just naturally started showing up in Rosewood art. She is the physical representation of the difficulties the modern woman faces in today's society where we are expected to do everything while doing absolutely nothing to threaten the status quo.  Be pretty but not too pretty or someone might be upset. Have empathy but only for the right people.  Be smart but not too smart or risk threatening them. Be yourself but submit to the powers that be. Be outspoken but know your place. The Muddle Headed Girl represents Millennials and Gen Z very well.

"Never confused, just a little bit off kilter, just a little bit off balance, but her heart is always in the right place." She is just tired of the mixed signals society always throws at her.

The Muddle Headed Girl has her own website! Learn more about her, what she stands for, and her importance to women's rights and equality at www.muddleheadedgirl.com

I love to draw her in many colors, body and head shapes, and with a variety of hearts. Each is original and the collectable series is limited to 35 a year. She is trademarked and copyrighted to Rosewood Art Studio so she will always be an original! Customs are available and are not counted in the limited 35 per year series. Prints coming soon!

Drawing of a woman on a paper

The Expectations Women

These drawings first started out as a single panel in the 6 pane window series. I find them so expressive that I now create them as stand alone art. There are six women in six different expressive poses and they are each very different and original.  I call them Expectations Women because they represent the dichotomy of what is expected of women by society... be strong but not too strong, be attractive but not too attractive, be bold but not too bold, be approachable but not too approachable... they represent the difficulties women face to be everything while at the same time, not being threatening. Like all Rosewood art, they are less inspirational and more of an emotional tool kit to empower us. This idea is represented by the many symbols and messages spread throughout each panel. They are just fun to look at and think about too!

Though each Expectations Women panel is very unique, several images repeat and have meaning. The orbs represent where we get our power, whether from friends, family, our jobs or the universe. The dripping heart represents the inevitable sadness that comes and goes from our lives, and each color has a specific meaning. The ribbons that cut the women in half represent the expectations society places on us to be everything but not so much that we threaten anyone... be the boss but don't be bossy. The shine is the shine we all have, all the time, it's there! The Rainbow Theme and Editions express my support for the LBGTQ community of which I am a part. And finally, birds, especially geese and woodpeckers, are the Spirit Animals of Rosewood.

Customs Available

As long as your custom order closely conforms to the general sentiment of all Rosewood art, customs are available. Contact us to discuss your ideas and most likely we can work something out and make Rosewood art your own! I just LOVE to do custom orders, they are so intimate!

The six panel Windows series can reflect your own personality, ideas, life lessons, and images. We can discuss each panel in detail.

The Expectations Women series can be tailored to your own thoughts with each symbol having special meaning to you. We can even change the Rosewood Girl to you!

The Muddle Headed Girl can be drawn in any body shape, in any color and with anything representing the heart. Women seem to like all shades of blue so if you do not see what you want, just ask! Make her your own!

Your custom made art can reflect yourself, a friend or family member as a gift, or can memorialize a lost loved one, human or pet. Let's talk!
